Gratitude for Prayer Answered

Yesterday I learned that someone I’d been praying for has taken bold strides in her recovery. This is an answer to my prayer.

I’m just beginning to learn how to really pray even though I learned many growing up. I think mechanical recitation is meaningless though, so now I just ‘talk’ to God. Temporal relationships are strengthened by communication, and so is my relationship with Him. I gain confidence by remembering things like, “Trying to pray is praying,” and “If the only prayer you ever said was, ‘Thank you,’ that would be enough.” I believe God knows my heart as I stumble along, trying to think of the right words. I’m grateful God meets me where I am.

I thanked Him as soon as I learned that my prayer had been answered. It’s not complete recovery, of course, but it is a step forward, and that satisfies me. I’m grateful to see the power of God at work, especially when it’s through loved ones. I’m grateful when I’m aware of how blessed I am.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. ~James 5:16
